A “SICK” protest which targeted Poole councillors in their own homes is being investigated by police.

In a co-ordinated attack on Saturday evening, Conservative members of Borough of Poole had police crime incident tape strung across drives and mock eviction notices mentioning the government’s “bedroom tax” put though letterboxes, along with evidence bags containing a cotton bud covered in fake blood.

On it's Facebook page, the Bournemouth branch of UKUncut explained it was part of a countrywide "Who wants to evict a millionaire" campaign.

Among those targeted was cabinet member Cllr Mike White, right, who received an eviction notice containing a graphic of Margaret Thatcher wiping a tear from her eye, and red coloured cotton-bud in a bag with “Crime number Thatcher 666” written on it.

“I had some quite nasty, almost sick, material left on my doorstep and put through my door,” said Cllr White. “It’s thoroughly unpleasant.”

He said: “I would have felt uncomfortable if I had grandchildren around. They would have been upset by it.

“I’m not sure it’s going to further their cause,” he added. “I have had the police around twice. They are taking it quite seriously. Certainly if it escalates it ceases to be amusing.”

Only Conservative members forming the administration of the hung council appear to have been targeted, including the mayor, Cllr Carol Evans, long-serving member Cllr Ann Stribley, cabinet member Cllr Judy Butt and Cllr Graham Chandler.

Council leader, Cllr Elaine Atkinson, whose home was not one of those targeted said: “I don’t know what they hope to achieve.”

She added: “That kind of intimidation makes people afraid of potential escalation.”

The Facebook message, posted on Sunday, reads: "Yesterday we took on the Tory MP's and councillors of Bournemouth and Poole this weekend for our "Who wants to evict a millionaire?" action.

"Their homes were dressed as crime scenes with yellow markers, crime scene tape, evidence bags with 'blood' soaked cotton buds, and some lovely eviction notices.

"Some of the lucky recipients of our crime scenes were Robert Syms MP, John Beesley of Bournemouth Council, and other usual suspects like May Haines, Carol Evans, Ann Stibley, Mike White and Peter Pawlowski.

"At a time that people are facing losing their homes due to the bedroom tax, we thought it high time those architects of misery felt (for a few seconds) what it would be like to face eviction from their own homes. Very nice homes indeed, all with plenty of spare bedrooms."

Dorset Police has confirmed the incidents were being taken seriously and said a “known organisation” was responsible.

Chief Inspector Jared Parkin of Poole police said: “This is a very serious matter and all the incidents are being thoroughly investigated.

“I urge witnesses and anyone with information to come forward and contact Dorset Police in the strictest confidence on 101.”
