ONE of Bournemouth’s biggest nightclubs has completed a £1million refurbishment – with its owners promising they have increased measures to keep clubbers safe.

The venue formerly known as Lava Ignite in Fir Vale Road is now Cameo and Myu Bar and owner The Luminar Group said that 35 new jobs had been created, with the venue now employing around 100 people.

Fir Vale Road was named the sixth most violent in the country by an influential think tank this time last year, but Luminar said it had upped security measures as part of the overhaul.

It said the club now operated almost 100 CCTV cameras and had implemented extra search procedures.

The club, which remained open during its refurbishment, now includes the Myu Bar for pre-club drinks, while the main club holds more than 2,000 revellers.

Simon Constant, Cameo and Myu Bar’s general manager, said: “Bournemouth’s nightlife is enjoying a real resurgence, so the timing of the launch couldn’t be better.

“We’ve invested wisely to transform what was already a great venue into the most prestigious club in town.

“From the cocktails in Myu bar to the facility to pre-book VIP booths and order drinks from the comfort of your seat, this is what the future of club retailing looks like.”

He said feedback on the club’s opening week had been “really positive”.

Luminar is Europe’s largest nightclub operator, with 56 clubs in the UK, including brands such as Oceana, Liquid and Envy.

The relaunch comes at a turbulent time for Bournemouth’s nightclub scene.

Just down the road from the renamed Cameo, Bliss and Chilli White in St Peter’s Road, both part of the Yellowhammer Bars estate, closed their doors without warning in January.

V Club’s licence was revoked in early March following a knife attack in the Exeter Road premises and its new owner is applying for a licence to reopen.
