A JEALOUS ex who broke another man’s jaw after catching him in bed with his former partner was jailed.

Adam Sugrue, 29, who had pleaded guilty to wounding, inflicting GBH without intent and criminal damage, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court.

The court heard that Sugrue had been drinking before he went to his former partner’s flat in Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, on April 22 last year, where he discovered her in bed with another man.

He then attacked the man, Samuel Dennett, striking several blows and causing what the judge described as a “very nasty injury”.

Speaking in mitigation, David Lyons said: “Mr Sugrue is a hard-working young man, he has always worked in various manual trades, taking him all over the country.

“He is no shirker and will continue to work in future.”

Mr Lyons said two previous convictions, one for possessing an air rifle, another for possessing a flick-knife, were not an indication of bad character.

He had the former weapon for hunting rabbits while living rough, the latter for work.

He said Sugrue, of Alexandra Road, Bridport, had stopped drinking.

Jailing him for 20 months, Judge Wiggs said: “You are before court today for a serious matter.

“You had taken quite a lot of drink, you used a number of blows on a vulnerable man – I accept it was not with a weapon.

“He suffered a very nasty injury to his face, and he is still suffering the effects of this.”

The sentence was reduced by a third due to the guilty plea.
