THE memory of an inspirational Southbourne woman will live on in July when her fiancé and family raise funds for a cause close to their hearts.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer, Zoe Gooch was determined to live each day as if it was her last. Instead of dwelling on the devastating diagnosis, she drew up a wish list of goals, fulfilling many of her dreams before she passed away in the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch on January 4.

As well as swimming with dolphins in Cuba, the 29-year-old bank worker dove off a cliff in Majorca with her dad Barry and adopted a stray dog from Greece, took up golf lessons and visiting the Isle of Wight tiger sanctuary.

She and her fiancé Steve Clarke were planning a trip to Las Vegas in February where they had discussed getting married. Tragically, she died two days before the couple were due to snowboard and ski in France.

Now Steve, 41, Zoe’s brother Zack, 18, her uncles Tony Gooch, 58, and Mark Gooch, 45, and cousin Jamie Skinner, 29, are planning to use pedal power to keep her memory alive.

They will be among those taking part in the Macmillan Cancer Support London to Paris Cycling Challenge from July 3 until July 6, covering more than 480 km in just four days and finishing at the Eiffel tower.

Builder Steve, who lives in Christchurch, was with Zoe when she passed away. He said: “The cycle will be in her memory. We wanted to do something positive and are hoping to raise at least £8,000 between us.

“As we discovered, Macmillan Cancer Support is an incredible cause. The staff are so friendly and supportive; they did everything they could in Zoe’s final hours.”
