A CHARITY that aims to tackle knife crime will be officially launched on Saturday in memory of a Bournemouth man who was stabbed to death.

Jane Ormerod has set up Turn Your Back (TYB) after her son Nicholas was killed by homeless alcoholic Mark Haylock in Boscombe in April 2011.

Nicholas, 29, was a lifelong AFC Bournemouth fan and TYB will be launch-ed at half-time during the game against Notts County at the Goldsands Stadium.

Jane, from Southbourne, said that after a “great deal of work” she had obtained charity status and added: “AFCB have donated a signed, framed shirt that we are going to raffle; the winning ticket will be called at half-time.

“We also have our own TYB stand in front of the shop, which we will sell our merchandise from.

“This will be the second anniversary since Nic died and although this charity is set up in his memory, we aim to raise awareness in the name of all knife victims.

“We are aiming to work with as many youths as we can in as many ways as we can, mainly through education and sport activities.”

Nicholas’s killer was jailed for eight years and it was revealed afterwards that he had a previous conviction for a knife-related crime.

TYB is hoping to introduce knife-awareness sessions into Dorset’s secondary schools to change attitudes to carrying knives at a young age.

Dorset’s police and crime commissioner, Martyn Underhill, joined the charity as a trustee before he was elected and is due to help with the launch this weekend.

Jane, of Cranleigh Road, has already taken part in a number of knife-awareness events and recently made a video about her son’s life in a bid to get the message across.
