Tributes have been paid to volunteers who raised £1.8million for Poole Hospital’s new MRI scanner.

The state-of-the-art machine was unveiled in December by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Anthony Pitt-Rivers, and is one of only two such machines available in the south west.

Its purchase was possible due to work undertaken by members of the Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust/Poole Scanner Appeal.

“To raise £1.8m is a truly wonderful achievement and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all who have helped in whatever way,” said trust chairman Stuart WC Dean.

“Our work goes on as advancements in medical science are such that if we are to keep in the forefront of cancer treatment in Dorset, donations will always be needed,” he added.

Donations can be made at the hospital, cheques payable to Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust or Poole Scanner Appeal.
