A 62-year-old Bournemouth man has received a suspended prison sentence after admitting downloading child pornography.

Martin Watts, from Leydene Avenue, pleaded guilty to seven counts of possessing indecent images of children involving 15 still and moving images ranging in seriousness form grade one to grade five offences.

Bournemouth Crown Court heard how Dorset police raided Watts’ home in February 2011 after receiving information from the Metropolitan force.

Prosecutor Dawn Hyland said officers seized DVDs and computers.

During interview Watts said he had been downloading adult pornography for 10 years and mistakenly accessed indecent images of children.

In his defence, the court was told that Watts’ life “had fallen apart” but he had turned it around with help.

Judge Samuel Wiggs imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, and told Watts he would be a registered sex offender for seven years.
