DYNAMIC dance heads up an exciting spring season at Pavilion Dance South West in the Lower Gardens and audiences can expect top choreography, music and laughs in 2013.

Bournemouth’s national dance house has unleashed a January and April programme of world-class dance and movement-based performances, family friendly shows, live Bolshoi Ballet screenings, visual arts exhibitions and an engaging programme for and with young people.

The Thursday Night Dance Night series will continue on February 7 at 7.30pm with the return of visual artist Hetain Patel in his latest work, Be Like Water, and will include dance styles ranging from Indian Kathak and contemporary dance to street dance and Parkour. As part of the series, Pavilion Dance will be host to the world-premiere of Run this Town, a Parkour show by The Urban Playground Team, and the first-ever Performance Parkour symposium with Parkour co-creator Malik Diouf.

The Bolshoi Live spring season will feature live screenings of three of the most iconic ballets in dance history, starting with La Bayadère on Sunday, January 27 at 3pm, in a production based on the original 1877 sets and costumes, followed by a new version of The Rite of Spring by British choreographer Wayne McGregor, and Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich.

The Family Friendly programme starts this week with BOING!, followed by Rapunzel on February 17 at 11.30am and 3pm.

This classic fairytale has been re-written by leading children’s playwright Mike Kenny and is told in an inventive, visual and physical style with live music and magical design. Moko Mix, produced by MOKO Dance, a new national partnership to produce dance for children and young people, presents two engaging dance shows for children aged 7+, The Suitcase Story and The Rock.

The programme for children and young people also includes a collaboration between Protein Dance and the Quay School, which will result in a brand-new performance, XOXO, a response to Protein’s successful LOL.

The Quay School supports young people who are at risk of exclusion from school or who have medical needs.

The venue has also introduced some fantastic new classes, designed to help all ages get fit and active in the New Year and beyond. It’s the perfect time to make your resolutions and try something new, and with 40 classes catering for all ages and abilities to choose from.

Deryck Newland, artistic director, Pavilion Dance South West says: “We are proud to present Pavilion Dance South West’s Spring 2013 season.
