ALL sorts of disconcerting thoughts were going through my mind as I looked at the Cellophane seal on my takeaway.

Had my food been cooked in a factory? Had they merely warmed up my order? Had it been in a microwave?

Then I saw a tiny disclaimer on the menu, informing eagle-eyed punters about Tasty Moment’s revolutionary new packaging system that seals containers for freshness and heat retention.

I was relieved, but how many other customers have missed this tiny footnote? How many customers go home thinking they’ve got a microwave meal? The proprietors might want to think about this; it could be costing them business.

Which would be a shame because Tasty Moment isn’t half bad.

The lively kitchen and friendly staff helped me navigate through their epic menu, which is largely free of MSG (monosodium glutamate), an additive this takeaway has omitted in its quest to draw on the “health promoting influences of Oriental Cuisine.”

I don’t know how healthy or not the food here is, but this mission statement certainly took the guilt out of my order of deep-fried salt and pepper squid, which I followed up with king prawn in Szechuan sauce, with rice and a side order of prawn crackers.

Back home, once I’d got into the sealed plastic packaging (not a fan), I tucked into the tasty salt and pepper squid, which was seasoned with chopped chillies that added a welcome, fiery flavour.

Very nice.

I then tucked into the prawns with Szechuan sauce, which also had a bit of a kick to it.

They were generous with the prawns but the sauce wasn’t as rich or flavoursome as others I’ve tasted.

Nevertheless, I happily scoffed it down.

All in all, a relatively tasty moment that cost just shy of £13.
