THERE are few things better than settling down to watch a big football match on the telly with a beer and a curry.

England were playing Croatia, knowing a win would see them qualify for next year’s World Cup finals.

I was chilling some tinnies in the fridge, and the guys at Jidan Taj were rustling up a tasty lamb rogan josh and chicken bhuna, plus popadoms, onion bhaji, pilau rice and naan bread – all for a mouthwatering price.

Open every lunchtime and evening, Jidan Taj do special deals, such as two takeaway meals for £10, or eat in and buy one and get one free, but only on selected days, and sometimes only if you pay by cash, rather than card – so check before you buy if you want to get the best price. Also be aware that king prawn dishes aren’t included in the offer.

As well as medium curries like korma and kashmir, you can turn up the temperature with a dhansak, madras or, particularly, vindaloo – and you can choose chicken, lamb or vegetable.

I’ve always enjoyed the food from Jidan Taj, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Even better than that – England thrashed Croatia, so South Africa here we come!
