If you're a man under the age of 30, chances are Jason Derulo's not top of your Christmas list.

He's the type of bloke you hate, with his world-class dance moves and great voice, not to mention his good looks and the fact that your girlfriend nearly passes out every time she sees him,.

So it was with some admiration that I watched armies of men trooping through the Bournemouth International Centre last night with their other halves, only to watch them scream hysterically when the 21-year-old, Miami-born performer hit the stage.

There was a real party atmophere as the show got off to a flying start with The Sky's The Limit, followed by debut hit single Whatcha Say.

From then the hits flowed with Ridin Solo, What If? and In My Head but, with only one, nine-track album to his name so far, it was inevitable that Derulo would run out of material pretty quickly.

His own versions of crowd-pleasers I've Got A Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back cleverly made up for the shortfall and a stunning version of Ray Charles's Georgia On My Mind proved he's got the voice to match his stage presence.

Costume changes, ranging from a studded, hooded top, to gold, shiny fabric and even an illuminated jacket also went down well with the crowd, but not nearly as well as when he decided not to bother wearing a top at all.

One hysterical girl went home with the T-shirt he ripped from his body and another is, no doubt, still in shock after being invited on to the stage to be serenaded.

Top dancers and a great band completed the line-up for the first night of Derulo's nine-date UK tour and, if the reaction of the sell-out Bournemouth crowd is anything to go by, I'm sure he'll be back very soon.
