CAN you really pull off a populist comedy show about something as esoteric as cricket? Miles Jupp is nothing if not brave.

His tale begins as he looks for a more cricket-centric profession away from his acting career, which consists of a laughable part on children’s TV.

His subsequent travails consist of trying to pass himself off as a credible reporter, while attempting to keep his CBBC past under wraps. Jupp connects with the masses through his gift for storytelling. His acting background serves him well as he uses change of pace and tone cleverly for dramatic effect.

And there’s plenty of excellent cricket-free material, not least a vivid description of an attack of Delhi belly.
