HE has his father's looks and charm, and even his father's musical director, but his talent is very much his own.

Ever since the death of Matt Monro aged 54 in 1985, his son has kept the legacy of the hugely popular singer fresh in the memory with his tribute shows. But while many would be happy to keep hearing those much loved hits, Monro Junior, accompanied on electric keyboards by family friend Colin Keyes, now includes more of the musical influences on both himself and his father, performed with an engaging jazz swing style.

Monro Senior's numbers included Gonna Change The World, Portrait Of My Love, Walk Away, and the superbly uplifting Born Free. Frank Sinatra, a great admirer of his British counterpart, was represented by New York New York and The Lady Is A Tramp, and Sammy Davis Junior by Mister Bo Jangles. As for Monro Junior's own early preferences it was not actually his father's ballads but upbeat numbers like Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline and Forever In Blue Jeans.

Both father and son, though, were in total agreement on the creative genius of the Beatles, the show ending with a medley of Can't Buy Me Love, A Little Help From My Friends, and an audience arm-waving Hey Jude finale.
