SCREAMS, cheers, rapturous applause and repeated standing ovations...it is remarkable that a bunch of wannabe stars plucked from obscurity can create so much excitement.

But when the Britain’s Got Talent tour rolled into Bournemouth for two sell-out shows the power of TV was clear to see.

This stage show lacked the tension and excitement of the competitive element, the make or break comments of the judging panel and the comedy input of Ant and Dec.

It was compensated for by film footage of show highlights, including the best and worst auditions and judges’ remarks.

And binding it all together was the remarkably slick and upbeat compere Paddy McGuinness.

Opening act was worthy 2010 winners Spelbound who, seen live, absolutely take your breath away with the skill, energy and creativity of their dare-devil acrobatic gymnastics. Like a super-human deck of cards they stack and then sling themselves around the stage almost defying the laws of gravity.

Dance duo Twist and Pulse- pioneers of street-omedy - were also a favourite with routines that mimicked everyone from The Cheeky Girls to EastEnders.

Tobias Mead- the street dancer with the liquid moves - was popular too despite his act translating better to the small screen.

Impressionist Paul Burling was utterly brilliant- his impressions spanning the history of cartoons were ingenious and his Harry Hill spoof spot on.

Drummer boy Kieran Gaffney, 13, turned drumming into a rounded quite exciting act.

Boy band Connected, aged 12-15, didn’t gel with me at first as they mimicked JLS and Take That and the vocal harmonies faltered at times but they displayed huge potential.

Vocalist Liam McNally, 14, the little boy with the big voice who tackled Time to Say Goodbye, and Janey Cutler, 81, the glamorous great-grandmother who sang Je Ne Regrette Rien, with incredible power and conviction, perfectly illustrated how this was a show by all generations for all generations.

Singing accountant Christopher Stone represented all those people in ordinary jobs dreaming of living an extraordinary life.

But the act that surely won everyone’s heart on the night was Tina and Chandi, the rescue dog who danced in perfect time whilst looking lovingly at her best pal and dance partner -an incredible act!

A great family show.
