In his unparalleled career as a classical dancer, Carlos Acosta has performed on some of the world's biggest stages.
So it was a real treat to see him at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.
Teamed with an incredible group of dancers from his native Cuba, his Classical Farewell - his final tour for performing classical works - features excerpts from some of his favourite ballets, including classics such as Les Sylphides, Swan Lake and Carmen, as well as some more contemporary pieces.
The power and agility of the male dancers was as impressive as the grace and flexibility of the females, but when Acosta himself took to the stage, a hush of anticipation fell - as if everyone in the theatre knew we were about to witness something special.
And the Cuban didn't disappoint, with gravity defying jumps, the most beautiful lines and every pirouette a quadruple.
With an amazing stage presence, he was equally entertaining in the classical pieces as the more comedic numbers, showing just why, from humble beginnings in Cuba, he has become one of the world's most foremost ballet stars.
