LONDON eccentrics The Correspondents are bringing their quirky sound to Poole live music venue Mr Kyps on April 20.

The band has made quite a name for themselves at the forefront of the electro-swing scene. In fact, there seems to be very few like them.

The Correspondents consist of Mr Bruce and Mr Chuckles, who collaborate to revamp vintage sounds for the modern ear. Using obscure samples and dusty drum loops they’ve created a foot-tapping amalgamation of electro, drum ’n’ bass, swing and boogie-woogie.

Starting out in November 2007, the two old friends returned to London after spell at their respective universities. In Leeds, Mr Chuckles had been tinkering with the sounds of hip hop, jazz and dance music. Meanwhile in Edinburgh Mr Bruce exerted his vocal dexterity over drum ’n’ bass, breaks and funk.

The unlikely pair cut their teeth at a few parties and decided to cement the live performance relationship in their makeshift recording studio. Tracks have been recorded and in the last couple of years, the duo have been performing an ever growing list of festivals and shows whilst constantly fine-tuning their sound.

It should be an interesting, if bizarre, night for music lovers.
