YOUR revelation that the former Conservative leader of Bournemouth, Councillor Peter Charon, has become the first councillor in the region to achieve an Advance Leadership Award raises two fundamental questions: 1) Has the Conservative Group made a very stupid mistake?
2) Is the award pointless, with no meaning or bearing upon the situation?
I am not really in a position to comment as I probably do not know all the true facts.
However, last night during a discussion with some friends one of them said: “Yes, a mistake has been made – they should have kept Charon and sacked the rest of that awful council.” And nobody present disagreed with that.
If it is the duty of a council leader to look after the interests of council tax payers, then it is a pity that Bournemouth does not have an election for a mayor as I am sure Peter Charon would be a strong candidate.
This would be a good measure of public opinion on his performance so far. I think it would be a brave man who would bet against him winning.
