RECENTLY I read that a group of beach hut tenants had been formed to object to the council’s proposals to make the letting of beach huts fairer for all residents of Poole.
It would appear that some residents have had a tenancy for up to 10 years, whilst there is a waiting list extending for about 10 years. Surely this is not right.
To make the lettings fairer for all residents of the borough, either introduce a scheme with a much shorter maximum tenancy to reduce the waiting list to say one year, or let the cost dictate length of tenancy by significantly increasing the rental after, say a two-year tenancy.
Beach huts are a valuable asset which could be used to generate more revenue to ease the council tax.
