MANY thanks to the Echo for publishing details of the huge attendance at the recent Poole Beach Hut Association meeting in Monday’s edition (February 6).

Our aims are to represent the tenants of the 1,034 Poole beach huts and to challenge at public consultation the recent Beach Hut Review Working Party recommendations to limit beach hut tenure from 2013, to five years or 10 years term for a higher premium for the whole period.

Our association believes you can achieve the same aims as the Borough of Poole councillors in reducing the waiting list – which is 364 people and some four to five years’ wait – by building more huts or providing the popular wooden versions.

Our experts have identified suitable locations where up to 130 huts could be added to council stock. This could halve the waiting list and produce more income for Poole, currently at £1million revenue from their beach huts.

The cost of renting Poole Beach Huts has increased 100 per cent over the last five-plus years, with 45 per cent-plus licence fee increases and VAT and non domestic rates being added. Some huts now cost £1,500 per annum to rent. This substantial income is not ring-fenced for the beach and most of the money gets spent elsewhere.
