WE, the electorate, did not vote David Cameron into office for him to apparently disregard firm manifesto pledges (and probably the majority of his own back bench MPs).

I refer to the iniquitous European Human Rights Act, which he pledged to replace with a British Bill of Rights, which looks after the interests of the British people, rather than enrich a few trendy left wing lawyers.

Any legislation which exposes us, and prevents us from dealing properly with murderous extremist thugs must be wrong, so this is one promise that Mr Cameron has to keep.

He should ignore the bleating of some of his coalition partners, and call their bluff. Otherwise the unforgiving electorate may force him to seek other employment at the next general election.

It’s time for Mr Cameron to start acting like a Conservative. Defence of the Realm is his prime duty.
