AN OPPORTUNITY arises for councillors to improve our road conditions and create more places for parking by moving to introduce by-laws to prevent the permanent positioning of cars placed on our roads with ‘For Sale’ notices, price, mileage etc.

Oxford Borough Council has created this much wanted bylaw to stop illicit usage of roads, which are now being monopolised by the parking of cars with ‘For Sale’ notices.

Their bylaw will become operative in the autumn after which if, after warning, the vehicles have not been removed, the offending cars will be towed away to a compound.

Unfortunately our roads seem to have more and more cars left for days and weeks, and in some cases months, costing the owner no expense for occupying valuable parking space. The parking takes up places which council taxpayers have a right to park their vehicles on but are prevented from doing so.

So what Oxford council has decided to legislate on regarding this road sale of cars, Bournemouth council can surely follow suit.
