BOURNEMOUTH Council wants to privatise the town’s traffic wardens? It seems to me that nothing can be left alone these days.
We all know the recession has hit councils hard and the idea of privatising wardens might look good right now.
What happens when the council finds it does not receive any income from it? Will there be a sharp rise in fines? Will the new operators be controlled and not used as just another “cash cow” for themselves, along the lines of the independent clamping companies we regularly see being named and shamed on television?
As the economy improves, no doubt the council will want to take the warden system back under their own wings, in which case, no doubt they will have to pay a huge premium to buy back the rights… yes, of course, funded by the council tax payer yet again.
Guess what? The great unwashed are getting really fed up with paying tax to continuously bail the council out of senseless, whacky, unrealistic schemes. Just look at the waste of money spent on the reef and you are having to lay off council staff and outsource services.
Sounds like another piece of IMAX deja vu to me, councillors, take a very long hard think.
