I HAVE just received the latest brochure from The Lighthouse in Poole. I am bitterly disappointed by it. Yet again, for what could be the third or fourth year in a row, there is nothing at all music-wise for people who want a bit of pop or rock or indie or whatever.

It just seems to be very much influenced towards dance, quartets, world music, literature et al. Now there is nothing wrong with this at all. But whatever happened to The Lighthouse being the centre for all arts?

It appears to be elitist and wants to avoid the younger generation. The generation who you should be encouraging to come to The Lighthouse.

They may well start off wanting to see Florence and the Machine or Marina and the Diamonds, but they will grow into seeing other things. And yet you have managed to completely alienate that age group.

I too, want to see these sorts of bands playing at The Lighthouse, and I am 46. I don’t mean them to be playing every week, maybe four or five times a year would be a start. You seem to think that getting bands from yesteryear like Bad Manners and 10cc are keeping up with the current trends, but the last hit Bad Manners had was in the very early 1980s and 10cc before that.

Even bands from the 1990s would be a start and I don’t mean Ocean Colour Scene again. There are millions of suitable bands, and 1,000s upon 1,000s of future patrons.

Come on Lighthouse, pay attention to your customers and to the patrons of the future more importantly.
