COUNCILLOR WOODCOCK defends the size of Poole council’s Communication Service Unit (Daily Echo letters, March 2, 2011), but isn’t there something missing in his account?
Has perhaps some vital part of his communiqué been inadvertently cut by the Daily Echo’s letters Editor?
Or maybe, is he only able to justify a third of this department and at last is going to address the situation?
I will emphasis the words “at last” because some of us have long memories.
We remember Poole’s current Conservative administration castigating its predecessor for wasteful use of public funds.
One specific item that came particularly under attack for blatant wastefulness was this same communications function.
Strangely, instead of wielding the axe when in control, these Conservatives actually increased the size of the department.
Is it now twice or three times the size it was? It has certainly mushroomed under the Conservatives.
Then this could be some Conservative thing.
Wasn’t it Bournemouth’s Conservatives who created a full cabinet position just to control their communications?
