I was caught by the Holes Bay speed camera on February 19. I was amazed to get the letter through the post as I had no idea I had been caught and there is no flashing light.

When you approach the traffic lights, you are so busy making sure you are in the correct traffic lane, watching the traffic and the sequence of the lights to make sure you do not go over on red, that you certainly do not notice a speed notice where you are required to go from 50mph to 30mph in such a short space. I am always so careful on this stretch of road that I do not go over 50mph as I am always aware of the fact that this road is so popular with police with their unmarked cars, speed cameras in the blacked-out windows of white vans and hand-held devices used at the side of the road especially by the Holes Bay Hotel.

I was so upset to have to pay the fine and get three points on my previously unblemished licence.

This camera seems to have one purpose only – to get cash from the already cash-strapped public, who are paying more and more to run their cars.
