Politicians rightly continue to preach the vital need to look after our planet.

However, my picture taken at Sandbanks on Sunday morning clearly shows the daily pollution and global dimming caused by aircraft contrails over Dorset.

This massive contribution to pollution is of course ignored by our esteemed world leaders because it’s not economically convenient to make an issue of it.

Exhaust fumes from cars play a major role in causing global warming, and are rightly being addressed by the motor industry.

In stark contrast, the rapid growth of aviation bodes poorly for more unchecked pollution and more global dimming.

Recently, the forced grounding of aircraft over Europe transformed our milky skies into the clear blue heavens experienced by Americans following the 911 aviation shutdown.

If the politicians are truly serious about their message of preserving our earthly home, they should look skywards each morning, as a reminder that time is running out.
