Firstly can I say how glad I am that England are finally out of it – not that I have anything against England, it’s just that I would like my Daily Echo and my TV stations returned to me in a style reminiscent of pre FIFA World Cup.

I have no problem with World Cup items appearing in the sports pages where they belong, but seeing it plastered all over the general news pages is unacceptable because the choice of ignoring it has been removed. Much as the English media might try to deny it, football is a real turn off for the majority of the population. the BBC's own audience figures have said that 15 million watched the absolutely vital England v Slovenia match, in other words 45 million didn't. That is three quarters of the UK population. The forecast from the BBC of the projected audience for England v Germany is a mere 20 million which still leaves two thirds of the population reaching for the remote.

Alan Gilbert, Plantagenet Crescent, Bournemouth * Having watched the Germany V England football game I can only say I am disgusted – but not because we lost.

These prima donnas who call themselves footballers, most of them are millionaires what passion did they show towards this important game? There were obviously some exceptions.

If I were a manager of these players back in England I would ban them from playing for their club or some considerable time.
