For once the BBC did the right thing by inviting the BNP leader, Nick Griffin, to join last week’s Question Time panel.
It turned out to be a classic example of giving a man enough rope to hang himself.
Griffin came across as an absurd, silly little man – not only a racist bigot but totally ignorant.
And while his pathetic performance may well have attracted a few more equally moronic supporters for his fascist party, he alienated millions.
As for Griffin’s ridiculous assertion that Winston Churchill, were he alive today, would support the BNP – that only underlined his total ignorance.
Churchill was totally anti-fascist and was warning of the dangers posed by Hitler and the Nazis for years before the rest of the world finally woke up to the danger. Churchill would be horrified that the country he led to victory in the war against fascist Germany has spawned the likes of Griffin and his party of racist thugs and bully boys.
The British National Party is anything but British.
