Westover Rowing Club has earned the right to remain an integral part of Bournemouth seafront.

It has been there for more than 100 years and has been of service to thousands of people over that period.

I have been fortunate enough to visit the club on a few occasions and have been welcomed by everyone there.

The atmosphere in the clubhouse was one of people pulling together and I am aware that everyone working there is a volunteer from the membership.

To suggest it is an elitist organisation is wide of the mark. The Imax cinema is an example of what happens when ill thought-out plans for short-term profit become part of a council’s plans. Bournemouth seafront has a good mix of contemporary and traditional architecture and already attracts a huge amount of visitors. This number will not increase by creating more and more places designed to take their money.
