I wish to advise your readers that, contrary to the view expressed (Have Your Say, June 22), Sir Michael Pitt did give Poole council’s planning process a completely clean bill of health. He had been called in to investigate whether there was any basis to rumours circulating that there were irregularities in the planning process. He found no indications whatsoever of illegal or irregular practice and went on to say in his final communication: “The Borough of Poole is a great authority and the folks are lucky.....if only they knew it!”

Sir Michael read every representation made to him by residents and other interested parties and he chose which individuals he wished to invite to an interview.

Your correspondent also states that (Sir Michael) “… fully recognising local anger at some perverse decisions.” Nowhere in his report does Sir Michael refer to any perverse decisions, and I have no reason to consider that he identified any.

Whilst concerns have been expressed about the cost, it was absolutely essential that the investigation was both full and thorough and that all concerns regarding the probity of the planning process were dispelled once and for all.

Cllr Dr Brian Leverett, leader, Borough of Poole
