I think the letter April 24 (Gym won’t fix it in divided town) makes very important points about living in the Borough of Poole.

All boroughs have their more and less affluent areas but in Poole I can’t see how the disparity between areas of affluence and deprivation could be more extreme.

Poole council, instead of working to alleviate difference, seems to commit in nearly every major policy to preserving and extending even further difference and division.

The selective grammar system is promoted to the extent of children from outside Poole being brought into Poole grammar schools over the needs of Poole children.

And this when the Rossmore Community College turns out some of the worst GCSE results in the country.

The management and funding of the school by Poole council is so poor that the school will now have to be taken over by government and run as an independent academy.

And for sports, Poole cabinet is all too pleased to put huge energy into organising polo on the beach, and more new facilities in Poole Park every year without break, while at Branksome Rec the sports facilities for young people, along with the pavilion, are appaling.

With one cabinet of one political party, most living in similar affluent areas, I don’t see how we could have a more thoroughly class- biased led council.

We need, I hope others would agree, fair sharing, not huge bias to some areas at the expense of others.
