SOMETIMES we need to look back to go forward.
The Victorians gave us many inventions we still depend on today – including railways, bridges, sewers, reservoirs and electricity.
Florence Nightingale based her nursing on the HALO principle of Hygiene, Air, Light and Order.
Tuberculosis (similar to Covid-19 ) was dealt with in isolation hospitals with plenty of fresh air, sunlight, rigorous hygiene and ward control.
Children in the 1960s were reminded to wash their hands after using the toilet and always before handling or eating food. Litter was put in bins or taken home. Food was rarely wasted.
These are simple measures we could look to now, to help ourselves, others and the environment.
