I HAVE just read a very upsetting report that there are going to be changes in the church at Okeford Fitzpaine. I think the worst bit was the selling off of the pews.
My gran, who never moved out of the village, embroidered some of the kneeling cushions for the pews.
Although I haven’t lived in the village for 45 years, I am a regular visitor to the cemetery. I was christened, went to Sunday school and sang in the church choir.
Why would anybody want o go and sit in normal chairs? We have had this in churches down here. They haven’t the same feeling due to this.
So I have stopped going. What on Earth are the Diocese of Salisbury and the Bishop of Salisbury thinking?
