WITH reference to the wearing of face masks on buses, I had a sobering experience last October.

A person seated behind me was coughing in a disgusting way and the bus was too full for me to move. A couple of days later I went down with norovirus symptoms.

I urge anyone who is not comfortable with the situation on a bus to get off and wait for the next one.

My opinion is that wearing a mask is of little protection to yourself, but is a valuable way to protect other people.

A mask does not stop myriad virus particles going into the eyes, from where the tear ducts can carry them into the throat.
