IT’S disappointing and in poor taste that during a pandemic, Cllr Mellor would put forward a vote of no confidence against the Unity Alliance and council leader Vikki Slade in order to forward his own political agenda.

Our current Tory government have shown a complete failure to deal with a crisis from the offset. More power would be catastrophic.

The Unity Alliance provides a voice for all, not just one political party. BCP Council declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019. I see positive steps from BCP Council even whilst dealing with a pandemic. They need to be allowed to carry on with their good work.

The statement Cllr Mellor issued discussed the Wessex Fields Project and Bournemouth Air Festival. No doubt he would see us concrete over the Wessex Fields instead of perhaps a zero carbon Dorset hub, community farm, educational centre and nature reserve providing long-term sustainable jobs and to continue with the carbon toxic 275 tonnes of CO2 the air show currently engulfs our beautiful county in every year.

We are dangerously breathing in 417ppm of CO2. This Tory government has shown complete disregard of our environment and services (NHS). Profit over people and business as usual.

I invite Cllr Mellor to join the many volunteers that go out daily to clean the litter from the beaches and to campaign for bringing back the New Green Deal that the Conservatives scrapped.

We don’t need opportunists, we need councillors who can work together for the common good.
