ONE of the dangers of lockdown is that we can become introspective. All the news is about Covid-19. It’s easy to forget – while wondering why, in our wealthy country, things seem to be falling apart – that in poorer countries with weaker health systems life has become very precarious indeed.

I am delighted that world leaders have committed £6.5billion to research Covid-19 vaccines and treatments – and also to distribute any resulting vaccine to rich and poor countries alike.

This is a global pandemic, and like climate change, it needs a truly unselfish global response.
