WIMBORNE eased their South West One East relegation worries with a 24-11 win over Stratford-upon-Avon at Leigh Park.

Full-back Max Hewson got the Minstermen off and running and after a Stratford penalty goal, the hosts were awarded a penalty try.

Jack Newton showed terrific strength to force his way over for number three and although Stratford kicked another three points, Jack Mason powered through for a bonus-point try.

Connor Carpenter converted and Wimborne held a 24-6 lead at half-time.

The hosts defended well under sustained pressure in the second period, repelling all but one attempt from the visitors to cross the try line.

Team manager Dan Draper said: “This was an important bonus-point win which drew us level on points with Swindon and took us seven clear of Marlow.

"We want to build on this improved performance when we play Witney in our next game."
