JUBILANT Aaron Ramsdale spoke of his delight after securing an inaugural victory as a Premier League footballer.

The Cherries stopper played a key role in Eddie Howe’s men recording an important 2-1 win on the road at Aston Villa.

England under-21 international Ramsdale had victory snatched away from him during Cherries’ 1-1 draw against Sheffield United on the opening day of the season – thanks to Billy Sharp’s late leveller.

But a week later, the former Blades stopper helped the Dorset club get the job done, as they returned from Birmingham with all three points.

Ramsdale told the Daily Echo: “To get that win and to finally know what it feels like to win in the Premier League as a player, it was a delightful feeling.

“It was a much, much better performance – especially away from home.

“The place was always going to be loud. It’s the first time I’d been here and I didn’t realise actually how big it was.

“Their fans were really loud but I must say our fans who travelled up from Bournemouth, it’s quite a trip but they were loud, gave us an extra boost, gave us energy and we were just happy we could give them three points to take back down the road.

“I have been given the chance to play in this team and I have got to take it with both hands. I have got to try to make saves, come for crosses, kick well and I felt like my overall game was good.”

Ramsdale was only beaten by a second-half wonder-strike from Brazilian Douglas Luiz.

That goal proved consolation however after Cherries striker Joshua King had opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Harry Wilson’s deflected strike went in off the post.

The goalkeeper added: “To get a goal so early, we knew the bombardment would come.

“But then we got a second goal and we dominated until half-time.

“We knew the second half was going to be tough and they were going to throw bodies forward and they did that. I thought we defended well.

“They scored a screamer – you have to hold your hands up sometimes, you can’t save everything. That was tough to take but then we got the win, we defended impeccably.”

King’s spot-kick came after Cherries frontman Callum Wilson had been tripped inside the box by home goalkeeper Tom Heaton, after just 45 seconds at Villa Park.

Asked whether he felt any sympathy for the former Burnley ace, the 21-year-old replied: “I did. On his home debut – after the game I can feel sorry for him and have a bit of sympathy.

“But while it was going on I was delighted. I am only two games into the Premier League and starting my second game, so for that (the penalty) to happen, for me, definitely settled the nerves.”
