ASTON Villa boss Dean Smith does not believe Tyrone Mings will feel he has a point to prove when he faces his former club this weekend.

Mings is set to take on Cherries when the two sides meet at Villa Park on Saturday (3pm), just weeks after he left the Dorset outfit on a permanent deal believed to be worth up to £26.5million, having spent the second half of 2018-19 on loan in the Midlands.

Two serious injuries hampered Mings' career at Vitality Stadium, with the defender making just 23 appearances in four years after his £8million move from Ipswich in 2015.

Asked if his defender would want to prove a point against Cherries, Smith said: "No, I don't think so.

"Tyrone's quite a level-headed lad anyway.

"He played a few games for them (Cherries) last season against Man City and Man Utd, so he's played some big games for them in the Premier League and some of them were last season.

"Tyrone knew he needed to get out and play football, which he did for Villa last year and the match was very good – we enjoyed having Tyrone here and he enjoyed being here and the opportunity to buy him, we took up."
