BUDDING Wimborne stars of the future are on track for a Dorset and Hampshire cup double.

Simon Cassin’s under-13s team clinched a place in the Dorset Cup final with a 5-0 win over Branksome and meet Salisbury in the Hampshire Cup semi-finals at Sherfield English, near Romsey, on Sunday.

No Wimborne youth team has ever progressed to the last four of the Hampshire Cup before with 164 teams starting out in the competition.

On their way to the semi-finals the young Magpies chalked up an impressive 38 goals and conceded just four in their four matches.

Manager Cassin is well qualified in taking the boys forward in their football development, having attained his FA preliminary coaching award, his FA Youth Award coaching levels one, two, and three, and FA2CCF accreditation.

“The vast majority of our players have been with us from the beginning,” said Cassin. “We’re all about improving. Whatever we’ve achieved it has been done by hard work and the players’ work ethic.

“The amount we’ve achieved can’t be done once a week at training, but needs the youngsters to go home and practice what we’ve taught them.”

The unbeaten under-13s Dorset Division One leaders will line up in the Dorset final on April 1.
