LEE Chudy finally broke his goal duck after netting twice in Hamworthy United’s 4-1 win over Horndean at Five Heads Park on Tuesday.

Striker Chudy scored either side of half-time, his double sandwiched between Sam Lanahan’s opener and a Steve Whitcher effort.

Former Wimborne duo Chudy and Whitcher were both signed by Hammers boss Simon Browne from Lymington Town earlier this season.

Browne said: “Unfortunately for the pair of them, we have been in the middle of an horrendous run and haven’t seen the best of them.

“I was pleased for them to score. Lee is all about scoring goals and, but for a nasty bobble, would have had a hat-trick.

“That is what I got them in for. I know they can do it and it is just a case of getting them to do it on a regular basis.”

Browne was forced to take a threadbare squad to Horndean following a number of late withdrawals as Hammers looked to bounce back following their 7-0 drubbing by Fareham.

He added: “We went with a starting 11, one fit sub, one unfit sub and a youth team goalkeeper so I was a bit concerned. Everything was tickety-boo on Monday but that’s Horndean away on a Tuesday night for you.

“I let everybody know what was expected of them and the lads responded really well. We just need to take it on now when we play Brading on Saturday.

“There were a lot of positives. But we have taken one step forward and three back over the past few weeks so need to start taking a few forward again.”

Browne praised defender Greg Horlock following his return from a three-month injury lay-off and was also delighted with the performance of right-back John Wyatt.

Hammers: Evans, Wyatt, Horlock, White, Haysom, Lanahan, Stacey (Wakefield, 55), Robinson (Byrom, 80), Whitcher, Chudy, Burbidge. Unused sub: Voysey (g/k).
