GRANGE Athletic maintained their position at the top of the BYFL under-10 Division 14 table with a hard-fought draw against second-placed Kingswood Youth.

Kingswood started the brighter of the two teams and went close after five minutes when James Third and Oliver Bird combined to present the former with an opportunity that was well saved by Grange Athletic’s goalkeeper Dan Kirby.

Despite Kingswood’s early pressure, Grange began to grow in confidence and almost took the lead after 10 minutes when Jake Cole linked with Eathan James, who played a delicate ball into the path of striker Tom Rogerson who just failed to latch on to the pass.

There was more drama two minutes later when Grange were awarded a penalty after captain Rogerson was brought down in the penalty area. The resulting spot-kick was well saved by Kingswood goalkeeper Jack Rideout.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Sam Fudge played a neat ball to winger Tom Weeks whose low cross was slotted away by Rogerson.

Kingswood equalised midway through an equally hard-fought second half.
