HIGH-FLYING Hawks ran out 2-1 winners against under-7s rivals Buzzards thanks to a ‘thunder shot’ from man-of-the-match Jaden Davies.
With only a single point separating them in the league, this was always going to be a close encounter.
Buzzards were first to pose a threat as they hit the post early on but, just before half-time, the deadlock was broken by the Hawks’ leading scorer Dan Kelly who netted from a corner.
After a quick half-time team talk from both sets of parents, the players were off again with Buzzards piling forward for an equaliser but a save and quick throw put Leuan Turner free for the Hawks and he coolly slotted home.
Action continued at both ends with the final say in the game going to Jaden, who hit the back of the net for the Hawks with a fizzing drive from outside the area.
At the final whistle, both sets of players had given everything but found enough energy to shake hands with the other team before making their way back to their proud parents.
