Cherries have this afternoon completed the signing of Crystal Palace defender Adam Barrett.

Barrett completed his move to the Seward Stadium on a two-year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old, who played alongside boss Lee Bradbury and fellow new recruit Darryl Flahavan at Southend, is Cherries’ third summer signing.

Barrett, who was also understood to have attracted interest from Notts County, was at the club this morning to put the finishing touches to the transfer when Cherries began their pre-season training.

His arrival boosts Cherries’ central defensive options after skipper Jason Pearce joined Portsmouth earlier this month. Barrett could also be a leading contender to captain Cherries next season.
