MAN-on-a-mission Robbie Stammas wasted no time in inspiring Ferndown Wayfarers to victory – so he could dash off to a romantic rendezvous.

Stammas claimed five wickets to help his team climb to second position in the closely contested Dorset Sunday League Division One standings.

The 24-year-old’s heroics helped dismiss Parley for 124 after Wayfarers had made 200 for eight batting first.

After watching Stammas return figures of five for 28 in his nine overs, team-mate Eric Linge revealed: “Robbie had a date in the evening so he tried to finish the game early!”

Charminster-based Stammas, who hit the headlines in August 2009 by taking all 10 wickets in a Wayfarers win over Old Blandfordians, said: “I had places to go and wanted the game to be over as quickly as possible, so I probably bowled a bit quicker than usual!”

Stammas, a builder by trade, added: “We are hoping to challenge for the title this year. We are putting out a strong side and playing quite well, so we are trying to keep the good form going.”

James Stanton (50), Linge (31), Dave Rose (27) and James Raftery (26) led the way with the bat for Wayfarers, while Mitch Baker took four for 61 for Parley.

Parley skipper Robbie Gunn hit an unbeaten 46 but could not prevent a 76-run loss as Stammas claimed five of the first six wickets to fall.

Poole Town football captain Carl Poore displayed his all-round sporting skills by helping Cranborne to a 66-run victory over Shillingstone.

The Dolphins right-back starred with 69 as the league leaders made 227 for eight. Dan Adlem was also on form with 61.

In reply, Shillingstone were knocked over for 161 as Charlie Arnold (4-41) impressed for the victors. Dan Loader’s three for 27 also helped complete the comfortable win, which ensured Cranborne remained at the top-flight summit with five victories in nine matches.

Swanage skipper Ron Barker had no complaints about the outcome as his men came up 13 runs short against St Georges.

In what Barker described as a “cracking game”, St Georges made 234 for five, with Ian Booth and Paul Higham claiming two wickets apiece.

But Swanage could only manage 221 for nine as their chase ended in defeat. Matt Thomas top-scored with a half-century.

• Elsewhere, Winton (272-9) recorded a 60-run win over Henstridge (212-8).

Daniel Baguley and Badrul Alam were key to the Winton success. Baguley hit 45 before claiming three for 36, while Alam top-scored with 77 and then took two for 23.
