WIMBORNE boss Alex Browne has called on his players to cut out the “little mistakes and lapses of concentration” if they want to succeed in the Southern League.

Magpies secured promotion to Zamaretto Division One South & West after finishing runners-up in the Sydenhams Wessex League last term.

But they have yet to win in four league matches this season and languish fourth from bottom with two points going into their home clash against Cinderford tomorrow (3pm).

Wimborne go into the encounter after registering their first win of the campaign, 2-1 at Bideford in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday, but having been crushed 5-2 at Totton in the league on Monday.

Browne said: “We were delighted with Saturday. The players performed well, showed great character and got a good result.

“It’s unfortunate it didn’t get us three points though, and as much as it gets us through in the cup, the league is our bread and butter.

“There were a few tired legs on Monday, although I appreciate Totton played on Saturday as well. We started the game very well but there were a few players on empty.

“I said to them in the changing room afterwards that the little mistakes and lapses of concentration you can get away with in the Wessex League, you can’t get away with at this level.

“That seems to have been our downfall during our two defeats.

“But we’re not panicking. From what we have seen, we’ve played Paulton and Totton, who are likely to be there or thereabouts for the title.

“They are supposed to be the strongest teams, but there is nothing we should be afraid of.

“We just have to make sure we are concentrating and working hard for the full 90 minutes.”
