DANNY Hollands is vowing to pull out all the stops in his bid to feature in Cherries’ League One opener at Charlton Athletic.

Hollands is set to face a frantic race against time to regain his fitness for the trip to the Valley after discovering he will require surgery.

The luckless midfielder’s pre-season injury jinx struck again when a series of tests at the end of last week revealed a double hernia.

Hollands is hoping to go under the knife of world-renowned specialist Dr Ulrike Muschaweck at her Munich practice in the next few days.

The consultant has treated a number of footballers and has a reputation for getting them on the comeback trail in double-quick time.

And Hollands, who made a rapid recovery from hernia surgery in Germany in 2007, is pinning his hopes on the medic’s healing hands again doing the trick.

Hollands told the Daily Echo: “Hopefully, I will be able to have the operation some time this week but it is a waiting game for me.

“I’m trying to go back to Germany where I have been before.

“I know the lady who carries out the operations and she is very good. It is one of the best places and the best treatment.

“I’ve had two hernias, one on the left and one on the right, and, usually, once you’ve had them done, that’s it.

“Unfortunately, that has not been the case for me. I’ve got another problem and it looks like I’ve got one in my stomach and one in my groin. They are both on the left side so, hopefully, they won’t be too bad.”

Hollands has endured frustrating warm-up campaigns for the past two years with knee injuries ruling him out of Cherries’ annual curtain-raisers.

And with Cherries kicking off against the Addicks a fortnight on Saturday, the 24-year-old knows time will be of the essence.

Hollands added: “It’s a massive disappointment and another pre-season curse for me. But it’s something I’ve just got to deal with and make sure I get back as soon as possible.

“It’s not too bad. I can still train and play but I’ve got to have the operation.

“I can’t say how long it will take to get back because I don’t know how bad it is yet.

“Ever since I’ve been here, I’ve never featured in the first league game of the season and I’m going to try to do everything I can to be back for it.

“I certainly haven’t given up hope and a lot will depend on when I can get the operation done. If I can get it done soon and the rehab goes according to plan, then maybe I could be on the bench at Charlton. Only time will tell.”
