CHRIS Cooke cracked a whirlwind 74 as he guided Bournemouth to a four-wicket win at South Wilts in the Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup second round.

The South African, who is being monitored by County Championship big guns Glamorgan, top-scored for last season’s national cup winners in the clash at Lower Bemerton.

He hammered eight sixes and three fours as he raced to 74 off only 30 balls.

Scott Mills hit 56, including four sixes and two fours, and James Park got 33 as Bournemouth rattled up 221 for six to triumph with three balls to spare.

Earlier, South Wilts had notched up 219 for four in a spectacular high-scoring last 16 encounter which saw bowlers struggle throughout, although Bournemouth’s Simon Ridley claimed two for 38.

Meanwhile, Andy Sexton shone for top-tier Bashley with 85 as they bulldozed past lower level New Milton by 143 runs at home.

Richard Morris (56) and Neil Thurgood (52) also bludgeoned half-centuries as Bashley swept to 219 for three.

Ross Grierson then grabbed four for eight as New Milton were skittled for 76.

The quarter-final draw, with ties to be played on Sunday, July 11, will be made at the Rose Bowl tonight.
