DAVEY Watt was forced to bow out early from Pirates’ bumper 55-37 home win over Belle Vue with concussion after taking a nasty fall in his opening ride tonight.

The Australian ace took a heavy tumble after Jason Doyle skidded into him on the first bend in heat four and both they and their machines hit the safety fence hard.

Both Poole Castle Cover riders were able to walk back to the pits after receiving first aid on the track.

But Watt was unable to carry on racing because he sustained concussion and looked a forlorn figure as he made the long lonely walk across the centre green to the changing rooms after race seven while the Elite League clash carried on without him.

He had been hit hard in the head by Doyle’s front wheel and received an extensive massage in the changing rooms as his team-mates made it 13 league wins out of 16 matches this term.

Upton-based Watt, who was feeling groggy and second hand, has three days to get over his injury.

He is next scheduled to be in action in the Polish League on Sunday, with his next Pirates appearance next Wednesday at home to Ipswich.

Poole shrugged off the early loss of their captain to scorch to a thrilling 18-point triumph.

They tied up victory with two races to spare when star man Leon Madsen and Chris Holder blasted past Hans Andersen to grab a home 5-1 in race 13.

Pirates plundered three league points and are now 14 clear at the half way stage of the season as they hunt a fourth title in eight years.

Their big win was made even more sweeter because Bjarne Pedersen revealed afterwards he had a bad head cold and would normally not have ridden, but bravely did so to grab six paid eight.
