A LAST-minute entry into a Pro66 Tour event proved to be the perfect remedy for cash-strapped Challenge Tour star Lee James who earned £1,000 for finishing runner-up at this week’s tournament held in Dorset.

The 37-year-old six-time European winner set a new Remedy Oak course record 69 before losing in a play-off.

The previous best off the championship tees was a two-under-par 70 by European Tour star Nick Dougherty.

James shares the record with playing partner Matt Ford, who won the £2,000 top prize after sinking a 30-foot putt on the third extra hole.

“I played well from tee to green and only missed two greens in regulation, but took 32 putts,” explained James, who pulled out of this week’s event in Austria due to a lack of funds.

“I just couldn’t afford the £900 it would have cost me, so I was at a loose end until I found out at the weekend about Monday’s event.

“I was very impressed with the organisation and will definitely play more Pro66 events in the future, if I don’t have enough money to play in Europe,” added James, who has entered the next two Challenge Tour events in Scotland and France.
